Prevent Child Abuse Missouri is a program of Missouri KidsFirst.
Prevent Child Abuse Missouri believes that the key to individual, family and community economic success and viability is to assure all children are raised in safe, stable, nurturing families absent of all forms of child abuse and neglect.
Prevention means that we keep abuse and neglect from ever happening. Prevent Child Abuse Missouri is committed to stopping abuse before it happens. The work of Prevent Child Abuse Missouri is guided by Prevent Child Abuse America’s Position Statements.
Almost all parents love their children and do not intend to abuse their children. Despite this, some parents may be socially isolated; have few resources to help them through difficult times; face stresses with which they cannot cope; and have limited parenting abilities. Children of parents in these circumstances are at higher risk for abuse and neglect. Prevention is the key to protect children.
In January 2008, Missouri KidsFirst entered into a provisional license agreement to serve as the lead agency for the Missouri Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America. Missouri KidsFirst works to continue building awareness about child abuse and neglect, providing education and inspiring hope to everyone involved in the effort to prevent the abuse and neglect of our state’s children. Working with our community partners we promote and implement prevention efforts at both the state and local levels.
In 2009, the Missouri KidsFirst Board of Directors created a special board committee to oversee the ongoing development of Prevent Child Abuse Missouri and the chartering process. The board committee has employed a membership advisory committee to provide guidance in the formation of membership criteria and benefits for Prevent Child Abuse Missouri.
Prevent Child Abuse Missouri had its formal chartering visit from Prevent Child Abuse America on June 23 & 24, 2010.
